Inspired by Contemporary Tudor Revival style, our architectural and interior design teams brought this St. Louis County custom home to life. Exceptional collaboration between our design teams, the homeowners, builders, and talented craftsmen helped realize the distinctive tastes and vision set out by the client. At every stage of design, the homeowners contributed their personal touch and embraced bold choices in color, pattern, and texture.
The interior design of this home exudes a sophisticated blend of modern aesthetics with warm, natural elements. An inviting arched front doorway leads to the foyer with views of the two-story, open great room ahead and adjacent to the impressive, modern stair tower. The great room is centrally located within the residence, appropriately reflecting its role as the primary living space and the focal point of the home. A pair of arched nooks with built-in timber display shelves and storage cabinets flank the two-story coursed tight-cut stone fireplace, producing a natural focal wall.
The kitchen was designed with modern sophistication, functionality and warmth. A custom, multi-level butcher block breakfast bar rests atop the black soapstone island countertop; a unique feature that required coordination among the cabinetry team, woodworkers and countertop fabricator. Reeded panels with parallel, convex rounded ridges were selected for the island front, range hood and refrigerator, adding tactile texture and modern elegance to this interior space. Exposed wooden beams with a natural finish are a prominent architectural feature, adding a rustic and structural element to the modern design. Two sets of open timber shelves are mounted on the dark tiled backsplash, providing display space for dishes and decorative items. These shelves add visual interest and break up the solid expanse of tile.
As for the interior color palette, dominant colors are deep, dark tones contrasted with crisp white and natural wood. Black is used extensively for cabinets, the range hood, refrigerator face, countertops, light fixtures, faucets, tubs, doors and select hardware, creating a dramatic and grounding effect. This is balanced by clean white, black, and teal cabinetry and a light, neutral tone for the walls. Natural wood tones, used for the island's countertop, wooden shelves, plank flooring, and exposed ceiling beams, add warmth and organic texture.
Playful yet elegant use of wall coverings provides unique character and personality for bedrooms, bathrooms, the laundry and mudroom.
Overall, the interior design of this Contemporary Tudor Revival home exudes a modern, sophisticated, and slightly moody atmosphere, balanced by the warmth of natural wood and the texture of the various finishes. Design direction focused on both functional and stylish elements, with a clear emphasis on quality materials and thoughtful detailing.
