Every space in this historic residence is incredibly unique! The focus of this Srote & Co interior design project was retaining the fundamental nature and character of the original historic brick house built in 1904, while updating it to meet the functional needs of today’s active family.
These areas, which include the foyer, parlor, study, butlers pantry, and powder room underwent complete restorations/renovations while honoring and maintaining the history of the home. The new bar and upper wine cellar are housed in the original kitchen. The new kitchen, breakfast room and great room are nestled within the home’s new addition with high, twenty-foot ceilings, creating a design challenge with high ceilings.
While the existing portion of the home is largely used when entertaining, an expansion of living space was added to the rear of the residence to accommodate the family’s daily activities including the primary bedroom and bathroom, kitchen, pantry, formal powder room and great room. Special attention was paid during the material and millwork specification process to seamless blend the old with the new.
To say the global pandemic has affected our everyday lives would be an understatement. Chances are you have made updates to your residence or are considering home improvement projects to support the activities that are now taking place inside the home. The interior design industry is paying attention and products are being introduced to support our new normal. In this series, Living Well, we will feature products and materials that support our lifestyles, health and well-being.
Today we introduce the aptly titled Living Well Collection of paint from Sherwin Williams. A special thank you to our Designer Account Executive – Katie Moses and Sherwin Williams for the use of their images and slides in this post!
Living Well Collection by Sherwin Williams
The Living Well collection is comprised of 540 neutral to mid-tone colors. If that is too many options for you, 132 inspiring hues have been curated into 11 color palettes to invite a sense of comfort and well-being in your home.
The Living Well Collection is offered as part of their SuperPaint product line featuring 2 different technology options – Sanitizing Technology and Air Purifying Technology.
SuperPaint with Sanitizing Technology
This interior latex microbicidal paint is the first EPA-registered microbicidal and proven to kill 99.9% of E. coli, MRSA, and Staph on painted surfaces within two hours of exposure. If that wasn’t impressive enough, it continues to kill 90% of bacteria for up to four years, even after repeated contamination.
SuperPaint with Air Purifying Technology
This interior acrylic, zero VOC formula, contributes to better indoor air quality. Thanks to its innovative technology SuperPaint with Air Purifying Technology can actually reduce the VOC levels from other interior materials such as carpeting, cabinetry and fabrics. Want more good news? It is even effective on unwanted household odors!
As interior designers, we know the immediate impact a fresh coat of paint can make. The fact that it can now make a positive impact on our health and well-being is truly innovative!
The front entrance is your first opportunity to make an impression. It sets the tone for everything that happens on the inside of the home and should make a statement! Here are a few we can’t get enough of.
Kingsbury Estate – Architect: Srote & Co Architects – Builder: Bozich Construction
Spring has sprung and summer in St Louis is just around the corner. In anticipation of warmer weather and outdoor gatherings, today we share a few Srote & Co Architects outdoor living space designs to get you inspired.
Our architecture team was proud to design this traditional, cottage inspired home nestled seamlessly within a developed residential location in St. Louis County. Our challenges included a narrow corner lot, building height and corner lot setback restrictions. This Srote & Co designed residence is what lot specific, custom home design is all about.
A mostly brick exterior with cut stone entry surround and entry terrace gardens help create a cozy feel even before entering the home.
The layout was tailored to this corner lot and oriented to take full advantage of southern sun in the rear courtyard and pool terrace area while also providing backyard privacy.
After our clients residence was devastated by a fire on the main level and portions of the lower, Srote & Co was tasked with reimagining this St. Albans villa design. The goal was to create an “open concept” floorplan while applying universal design principles to make sure it would function for our clients as they aged in place. The universal approach is seen in the flush flooring transitions, curbless walk-in shower, low pile rugs and carpets, wide walkways, layers of lighting and in the seated height countertop and vanity allowing our clients to live comfortably today and in the future.
Srote & Co was proud to partner with Brinkmann Legacy Homes to provide the architectural and interior design services for Villa Vedere. Enjoy!
So far, in our Winter Survival Guide, we have covered the benefits of plants and their effect on our health and wellbeing, we explored ways to destress through art therapy and today we focus on feeding our spirit, literally. Today we are excited to share a recent renovation/addition to an orthodontic office in Wentzville. Our focus on this project was not only to provide a much-needed update to the aesthetics, but also to nearly double the square footage. The goal was to better accommodate their growing practice by enlarging the waiting area, provide more private office space, add another consultation room, and create seating in the clinic itself. This project is an example of our interior and commercial architecture departments partnering to provide a seamless process from development through completion.
Check out the before photos at the end of this post!
The newly designed waiting area is almost the size of the old office! With all of this extra space we were able to create features such as a laptop bar and an arcade.
The clinic updates focused on bringing in more natural and supplementary lighting, not only to improve the functional task lighting, but to also cheer up a previously dreary space. By having the glass element on the partitions, we were able to increase patient privacy while also keeping things open and bright.
